New Health and Safety at Work Act 2015

The new Health and Safety at Work Act and key supporting regulations will come into effect on 4 April 2016. This will replace the current Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992. The key emphasis of the new Health and Safety at Work Act (HSW Act) is on everyone in the workplace being responsible for health and safety.

Some of the key changes under the HSW Act:

  • Worker engagement and participation
  • Persons Conducting a Business or Undertaking (PCBUs)
  • The duty of officers
  • Volunteer workers
  • Stronger penalties
  • Definition of workplace
  • Duty of PCBUs who manage and control a workplace

All organisations and business owners should be aware of their obligations and responsibilities under health and safety legislation.

Detail on the new legalisation is available on the WorkSafe website.
