President's Pen
This is one of my favourite times of year, when we announce the 2018 APR graduands. Twelve PRINZ members have chosen to make a statement about their commitment to the profession, by taking the APR course and successfully qualifying as Accredited in Public Relations. They can use APR to get the edge when applying for jobs or pitching for work in New Zealand or overseas. These members stand out because they have sought to explore more deeply the broad church that is PR, and understand the body of knowledge relating to areas they perhaps have not yet directly experienced, or have learned on the job. I still think that the most important and challenging area of the body of knowledge is ethics: it sounds a bit like dry toast, but actually it requires some real thought and examination of your practice, to know what the right thing to do is, especially when under pressure.
So, I would like to congratulate the following members for achieving APR in 2018, and I look forward to seeing you all graduate at the PRINZ Awards in Hamilton at the end of May: Aakanksha Mehta, Andrea Heffernan, Ann Liu, Caroline Fenton, Casey Wilson, Cherish Wilkinson, Desre Hilson, Gordon Gillan, Lynda Keene, Nicky Birch, Phil Tumataroa and Tsehai Tiffin.
