University of Canterbury Seminar: Digital Humanitarians

Patrick Meirer, PhD, author of 'iRevolutions', will present a seminar at the University of Canterbury on 'Digital Humanitarians', 2pm Thursday 26 March.

Patrick is a regular TedTalks speaker and was instrumental in setting up the Ushahidi platform after the Haiti earthquake. That in turn led to Crisis Mappers, which helped in mapping resources after the 2011 Christchurch quake. He has written a book, Digital Humanitarians: How Big Data is Changing the Face of Humanitarian Response, based on that experience. His talk will chart the rise of Digital Humanitarians and describe how they make sense of social media, satellite & aerial images and more on behalf of humanitarian organisations worldwide.
