PRINZ Student Ambassadors 2018

Miriam Taylor, Auckland University of Technology

My name is Miriam Taylor and I’m a third year public relations major at AUT. In 2017, I was an intern for PR agencies, Porter Novelli and Lily & Louis. I now work as the Event Producer for the New Zealand Boutique Wine Festival, and Production Manager for Influence Ecology—a business education curriculum specializing in transactional competence.

When I’m not completing university assignments, working, or attending PRINZ events, I’m usually moving my small collection of life-possessions from one Auckland house to another as a full-time, professional house-sitter.

My hobbies include classical piano, athletics, and cooking Indian food (EXTRA SPICY!). My Myers-Briggs personality is ESTJ, ‘The Executive.’

I look forward to serving my fellow PRINZ members as the AUT student ambassador for 2018. After all, the people I’ve met through PRINZ are largely responsible for the ambitions I have to pursue a career in PR.

Kate Hayhoe, Massey University (Auckland)

My name is Kate, and I'm a third year Communications student, majoring in Public Relations. I live a busy lifestyle, almost always overcommitting myself to everything Comms! Alongside my studies and role as a PRINZ student ambassador, I am interning at Goode PR. Over the last year and a half I've also interned at Chapman Tripp law firm and Child Cancer Foundation, as well as being President of the Massey Communications club.

I find on-the-job experience immensely valuable and it has only inspired me to pursue Public Relations further!

I'm proud to be a PRINZ student ambassador for a second year and I'm really looking forward to networking and collaborating with new students and industry professionals!

Celine Kao, University of Waikato

Hi! I'm Celine, honours PR student by day and wannabe writer by night. I fell into PR while discovering what it actually was during my student exchange to California in 2016, and since then I've been aiming for a career that harnesses the power of communication to make the world a better place.

When I'm not studying, you can find me working on MCSA's (Waikato's communications student club) next big event, reading a good book, or planning my next travel adventure! I love empowering my peers to achieve their dreams, so I can't wait to see what students can achieve through PRINZ!

Heather Williams, Waikato Institute of Technology

Hello all, my name is Heather and I’m a mature student with 11 years experience in the healthcare sector. I decided I wasn't happy working in care [for many reasons]. There was only one thing that brought me joy after a long shift, and it was writing. Though I am not a prolific writer, I felt a career surrounded by words was where I needed to be.

I am now in the final year of my Communications degree, specialising in Public Relations. I am on pins and needles to see where this position will take me.

Soana Hodgkinson, Unitec Institute of Technology

Kia Ora, Talofa, Malo e lelei, Kia Orana, Nihao, Konnichiwa,

My name is Soana (sew-a-na), I am 32 years old Tongan and am currently studying Communications, majoring in Media Studies at Unitec in Mt Albert. I study part-time due to health reasons but at some point, I will graduate. I'm about half way through now. My greatest love after God, are the minority group that society have put me in - people with "disabilities". I have always wanted to become a TV presenter or TV personality. I suppose I'm a lot like Taika Waititi - I need the world to have a laugh and not take the world so seriously.

I really like the picture I chose because it speaks volumes about my personal walk of life. This was taken in 2016 during a hospital stay. I still have a smile on my face, enjoy life and just. keep. going.

Jessica Colvin, Massey University (Wellington)

Hi! My name is Jessica and I’m currently in my last year of study here at Massey University in Wellington. I’m studying a Bachelor of Communications, Majoring in Expressive Arts and Minoring in Public Relations.

I would love to be able to generate social change through working for social enterprise' and non profit organisations and in guiding and producing content that communicates strong values and makes a real impact. I feel very passionate about gender equality, mental health and helping out in your own community and my two greatest loves are writing and photography.

I have recently realised how time and energy are extremely valuable when it comes to figuring out what you want to do with your life and how you want to help but but if you find something you are passionate about, and you put this passion behind your work, there will be an abundance of possibility and opportunity.

As a student who has yet to travel, but has an absolutely massive yearning to trek the globe, I would love to take valuable transferrable PR skills and my experience as a PRINZ Student Ambassador, to inspire change where it is most needed.

Jorja Miller, University of Canterbury

Hi, my names Jorja. I’m a third-year student at the University of Canterbury, studying a Bachelor of Arts doing a double major in Media and Communication and Sociology and minoring in Marketing. When I’m not at Uni, I'm working at my part-time job in retail and helping out with events and projects around my student accommodation.

Although I’ve had little experience in PR outside of the classroom, I'm excited to get involved with the local committee and meet other people in PRINZ and the PR community.

Emma Maciaszek, University of Canterbury

Hi! My name is Emma Maciaszek and I am currently in my last year at the University of Canterbury studying towards a Master of Strategic Communication Degree.

I have loved every moment of my University experience so far. From being on various student club executive committees and holding class representative roles to getting involved in the amazing student culture, I have met some incredible people and learnt more about myself than I thought was even possible!

I have also just started a new part-time job as a Marketing Co-ordinator. I am already enjoying being involved in the industry and applying the knowledge I have gained to real-life situations. I can’t wait to get involved with PRINZ to further my knowledge of the Public Relations industry and to be a part of such a prestigious institution.

The idea of social change is very important to me. Whether it is at a community level, or internationally, my goal is to one day work for a company or organisation that shares similar values to me and further improves society. Whether that is for animals, people, the environment or a social issue, I would find nothing more satisfying to spend my time doing!

When I am not at Uni or work, you will probably find me outdoors. I have been involved in equestrian activities for over 14 years now and enjoy nothing more than spending time with my own horse and taking her to the beach or forest for an adventure!
