New media training resources for today's leaders

A new media training book and accompanying online course have been produced by Pete Burdon from Media Training NZ.

Media Training for Modern Leaders has a strong focus on the media interview process, while there are also chapters on attracting media publicity and crisis communication. The book, written for both leaders and PR professionals, is unique because each chapter has a specific section on what has to change when it comes to dealing with the media in today’s world. “This includes things like the new need for speed in getting back to reporters and the continuous drop in the length of sound bites,” says Pete.

Because its an Australian publisher and distributor, Media Training for Modern Leaders is available in Dymocks and Angus and Robertson stores in Australia. In NZ, at this point its available at or the EBook through Amazon.

The online course, the Media Training Academy, is unique because while it’s an online course, it involves practical media interviews. This practical element is vital for any media training. The course can be taken by itself, or be used to back up face-to-face training. You can find out more at

Both the book and course are focused on maintaining and growing reputations in an ever-changing news media landscape. If you think these could be of benefit to yourself or your clients, check them out. Pete welcomes any questions or feedback.
