It was with great sadness that PRINZ marked the sudden death last week of senior Christchurch PR practitioner and stalwart of the Institute, John Wendelken. John was the truest of communications professionals, using his wisdom, skills, vast knowledge, integrity and intellect over many years as a business owner and practitioner in Christchurch.

He helped establish the Christchurch branch of the PRINZ in the 1980s. He was an accredited member and PRINZ Fellow.

He was hugely respected and admired by his clients and all who knew him. Since learning of his death, extraordinary tributes for John have flowed from long standing clients, PR people and others.

John had more than 25 years' experience as a public relations consultant, first with Dinniss Cleal & Associates in Wellington, later with Network Communications (NZ) Ltd in Christchurch, and since 1994 as co-founder of PR South Ltd to service Christchurch and South Island clients.

He worked in consulting roles with CEOs and marketing managers of public and privately owned businesses involved in manufacturing, transport, technology, utility and rural services. His skills were used to assist clients identify communication needs and develop long term activities to meet key business objectives.

He will be sorely missed by those who knew and worked with him closely, and by the wider PRINZ family.
