Description of Organisation

Joining the Christchurch City Council’s busy Communications Unit will give you an unrivalled opportunity to play a part in the rebuild and recovery of Christchurch.

Description of Position

Working alongside business groups from across the organisation, you will help keep residents and key stakeholders informed and engaged about the Council’s activities, services and decision making.

Key Areas of Responsibility

Reporting to the Communications Service Manager, as a Senior Communication Adviser you will have particular responsibility for the communications for major projects and initiatives across the Council. You will provide strategic communications advice consistent with overall communication and consultation practices to internal and external stakeholders.

Technical Competencies

Holding a public relations accreditation/degree and journalism training or certification you will extensive proven experience in a communication related area including working in media. You will be well versed in the areas of PR and experienced at managing new/social media based communications initiatives.

You will be able to work under pressure to tight deadlines, mentor team members, present effectively and have an exceptional talent for relationship building. An understanding of local government systems and the issues affecting the region is desirable.
