PRIA NSW State Awards for Excellence

The Public Relations Institute of Australia (PRIA), has honoured the New South Wales (NSW) winners of its annual State Awards for Excellence. Held at Chauvel Cinema last night, the ceremony also celebrated 60 years of the PRIA with a 1940s retro theme adding plenty of glitz and glamour to the evening.

More than 200 people attended the event, along with special guest MC Jane Caro. The ceremony recognised top performers in New South Wales (NSW) for excellence, best practice and professionalism in public relations and communication. The evening awarded prizes at three levels, Winner, Highly Commended and Commended, across 16 categories.

"This year saw another record number of entries in NSW, so competition for the top prize was extremely competitive. The growth of the awards reflects the continued increase in NSW PRIA membership, which grew by almost 20 per cent over the last year", said Andrew Collett, PRIA NSW President. "At a time when many industries are experiencing decline, the public relations industry has enjoyed greater recognition as a strategic business function. The campaigns recognised last night demonstrate the valuable role PR plays in creating public awareness, and driving business success for organisations and brands."

The most popular categories entered this year were Community Relations, Consumer Marketing, and Special Events/Observance.

Winners on the night included, Hill and Knowlton, 303, Weber Shandwick, Carpe Diem PR & Events, Sefiani Communciations Group, Cube PR and Reputation who took home a Winner and Commended award. Horizon Communication Group took home four Commended awards, Insurance Australia Group (IAG) took home two Highly Commended awards, Howarth took home one Commended and one Highly Commended, and Professional Public Relations (PPR) took home one Highly Commended award and one Commended.

Judges noted favourably on campaigns that had solid planning and research, clear objectives and effective measurement tactics. A full list of winners is available on the PRIA website.

NSW winners will now compete in the national Golden Target Awards, which will be presented at the PRIA National Conference in Brisbane on Monday 26 October 2009.
