Media Monitors wins international award for NZ media analysis report

  Media Monitors was the big winner at the Association for Measurement and Evaluation of Communications Awards (AMEC) held in London recently, being recognised as the International Measurement Company of the Year. Media Monitors also won another four awards including the International Members' Award - presented to the most outstanding report from all the entries received from AMEC Members headquartered outside the UK.

The SPARC report was written by Wellington-based Tourism and Sport managing analyst Ngaire Shepherd, and involved comprehensive qualitative media analysis from 1 July to 30 September 2008 to examine:

· The position of sport in New Zealand’s national identity;

· If athletes from SPARC’s “targeted” sporting activities represented a sense of the country’s identity;

Media Monitors Country Manager for New Zealand, Sean Smith said; “Media Monitors is the leading provider of media analysis in New Zealand and we are delighted that the skills and experience of our industry-leading analysis team has been so richly rewarded by the international industry body.

“Media Monitors’ analysis for SPARC showed New Zealand’s performance in the Olympic Games was portrayed by the media as a strong aspect of the country’s identity and gave the organisation a deeper understanding of how the media engage with sports events.Mr Smith said.

Andre Van Der Walt, Senior Adviser Research, SPARC said; “An analysis of this nature provides the sport and recreation sector with a distinctive opportunity to understand how it is viewed by the New Zealand public through the media. It is vital for national sport organisations to understand how to be able to capitilise on coverage during pinnacle events such as the Olympics to raise their longer-term profiles. “

In addition, Media Monitors also won a gold medal for Best use of communications Measurement: international single market and silver for business-to-consumer for the media analysis report produced for Shell Singapore and a silver medal in the Best use of communication measurement: business to business category for a report for Queensland Energy Resources.
