APR in New Zealand

PRINZ accreditation programme is open to all members with five years’ experience in professional public relations. The programme of study involves three written assignments/work examples and finishes with a written exam and a viva voce, which is an interview with three accredited members of PRINZ. Also included is attendance at a series of seminar and workshops and candidates are provided with reference readings on the body of knowledge for public relations.

PRINZ has more than 120 members who have achieved the status of APR.

Eligibility

  • APR in New Zealand is open to all members with five years' experience in professional public relations. The APR course is designed to refresh and ‘test’ candidates’ understanding across the entire body of knowledge of PR/Communication Management. Because some practitioners work exclusively in a specific area, the APR coursework and meetings are designed to encourage such people to develop an understanding of the other parts of PR.The APR course has been designed to support and enhance your professional development.

Coursework

  • The coursework that has been established is designed to help you co-ordinate study and test candidates’ ability to combine practical experience with the concepts outlined in the various text books and readings.
The seminars, workshops and assignments are intended to spread learning and effort over a five-month preparatory period before the exam. Written work provides practice for the final exam and candidates are given feedback as part of the process. This should be of special value to those who have been away from formal education for some time.

Exam process

  • The exam process will be a measure of professional ability. The pass mark has been set at 60% overall, with a minimum of 50% in each section – written tests, work example, exam and viva voce. The written section is a combined score from the two assignments plus the exam.
